FACE TO FAITH IN CLASSROOMS

How has your school been using Face to Faith in the Classroom?

Our school has made a wonderful attempt of mainstreaming face to faith in our classrooms. The purpose behind this attempt is to give an opportunity to maximum number of students to inculcate in themselves the value and attitudes laid down by TBFF.

To mainstream Face to Faith in school, F2F lessons have been included in the table of class teachers of class & a few more teachers. They have been allotted to zero periods of 1 hour each in a week. Class teachers take F2F Introductory module in class VIII and other subject teachers try to integrate other modules special VCs with their subjects and other activities of classes VII and VIII. The important attempts are being summarised below.

Introductory Module

With inspiration from F2F changes were made in festival celebrations.

Ø  Students Tried to celebrate important festivals like Holi & Diwali in an eco friendly manner.

Ø  National festivals were celebrated with a tribute to leaders of other  countries like Pakistan & South Africa along with Indian leaders

Ø  Festivals of other faiths like Lohri, Eid and Christmas were celebrated in school premises.

Wealth Module

As a part of preparation of wealth module, each class in the school prepared a Graffiti wall on the topic “What makes me happy”. After the VC on “Wealth Module”, Classes VI & VII were inspired to visit old age home & spend time with old people there.

UN Malaria Day VC

Science teachers of classes VII, VIII & IX prepared the students for this VC as the topic integrated very well with the subject.

Chart Decoration

Each class prepared & displayed chart about different country.

Food Activity

Even teachers of primary classes were so affected by Face to Faith that while

teaching the chapter of Food in their classes they did not forget to put the spices of

internationalism into it.

 

BIG SCIENCE CHALLENGE

UN Malaria Day Multipoint VC

D.A.V. Public School, Khera Khurd celebrated the cause of Malaria Eradication on UN Malaria Day by participating in a multipoint special videoconference arranged by Tony Blair Faith Foundation for the discussion about the same theme. The two other schools, one from Delhi and another from Indonesia participated in the conference. Two special guests: Ms. Nina Pine and Ms. Rachel Finn from San Francisco addressed the students about how and why Malaria is an important global issue. They advised students on some precautions to protect themselves from the disease and also suggested the ways in which they can contribute for the cause to the world. The students of all the participating schools discussed the activities they have been undertaking to fight the disease and then some faith element was added to the issue when speakers told them that there are countries where faith leaders play a major role in the eradication of Malaria. At the end of 90 minutes discussion, facilitator, Mr. Cory Davis from United States summed up the discussion. During the dialogue students came up with some very effective steps to aware people about the causes, precautions and symptoms of disease such as Talk Shows, Door to Door campaigning with the help of MCD, Street Plays etc. DAV, Khera Khurd has started their work towards the Malaria Eradication Program and will continue it in coming Monsoons.

International School Award

Our school, DAV Public School, Khera Khurd is now a proud recipient of International School Award, ISA for next three years i.e. 2012-2015. With the collective efforts of Teachers and Students, DAV Khera Khurd has once again proved itself to be above many others. All the hard work which was put by each member of this family has finally brought great success and honour to the school. I personally being the 'Coordinator for International Activities' want to congratulate everyone associated with DAV Public School, Khera Khurd. Also, I wish them all a great success for future and also assure them that our school will keep bringing more such recognitions and thereby offer many more learning opportunities for its students by collaborating internationally. WHERE’S THE NET?

February – June 2012

The 2012 summer Olympics will bring together nations worldwide and the Olympic torch will pass from bearer to bearer until it reaches its destination – travelling a route which traditionally has symbolized human achievement.

Beginning in February 2012, Faiths Act will spearhead a similar relay - between people of diverse faiths sprinting towards the UN’s Millennium Development Goal of zero malaria deaths by 2015.  And they will travel a path of considerable human achievement as they go. 

THE CAMPAIGN

The Where’s The Net?campaign is a global interfaith initiative aimed at raising awareness of malaria and increasing the use of bed nets, which can protect lives. From February till June 2012, symbolic net displays will pass from person to person worldwide spotlightingpeople of diverse faiths and cultures uniting to take action to eradicate malaria by 2015. 

The India net will arrive in Delhi by March 15^th, 2012.  It will carry stories of multi-faith collaboration while collecting messages of hope, blogsand photos along the way, which we’ll showcase on our website.  We want the nets to tell a truly global story of interfaith collaboration to prevent deaths from malaria – this is the story of real human achievement.

YOUR ROLE

You have been selected to be a net bearer for this campaign as a proactive Face to Faith school in India. As a net bearer, your school will be one of the few places in India that the net will travel to – carrying messages of hope and interfaith collaboration. We request that you organize an activity to coincide with the net’s arrival at your school as innovatively as you can. Some ways to do this is:

·         Organizing a school assembly around malaria messaging with a drama performance by the students

·         An evening event with food for local school children and their parents focused on malaria awareness and messaging

·         An art competition for students on malaria transmission

·         A sporting event using the malaria net as a backdrop

Please keep in mind that these are merely suggestions – we would really like for you to make this event your own and to design any event that would showcase the malaria net and highlight the interfaith work that you’ve been doing.

If you are interested in becoming a net bearer, please reply to this email indicating the event that you would like to hold and the preferred dates of hosting the net. Please also submit a photo of your school along with a short description.

German Delegation to DAV Khera Khurd

 

A delegation of teachers (trainees) from Germany visited DAV Public School, Khera Khurd on 11th,November'2011. Students welcomed them in traditional Indian way by doing 'Tika' on their foreheads.   The teachers interacted with students and enthusiastically took part in activities organized by them. The students organized Art and Craft activity which included 'Making jewellery with paper'. A 'Rangoli making' activity was also planned where teachers from Germany made the Rangolis themselves. Germans participated in a special Indian ritual called 'Havan'. After that they were taken to a Gurukul where they learnt about the ancient Indian educational system. The basic idea about the visit was to learn about each other's culture. The program was a success and both students of our schools and teachers from Germany learnt a lot about each other's culture, traditions and religion.

Face to Faith Workshop

A Face to Faith teacher training workshop was conducted at D.A.V. Public School, Khera Khurd, Delhi on 3rd, September,11 for teachers of other branches of DAV Family. The workshop was resourced by F2F coordinator of India, Ms Simmi Kher and a Ms. Rachita Gupta shared her experiences of being a F2F teacher at D.A.V. Khera Khurd.She presented a small presentation and shared her observations about F2F. The workshop really was a success and new trained teachers seemed to be very excited to start the program in their school with full enthusiasm.
